Governor McDonnell Announces Additional Appointment to Administration and Board Appointments
RICHMOND - Governor Bob McDonnell today announced appointments to the Veterans Affairs and Homeland Security Secretariat and Virginia Parole Board. He also announced appointments to 13 Virginia boards and commissions. Further announcements regarding additional appointments in the McDonnell administration will continue to be made in the months ahead.
Secretary of Veterans Affairs and Homeland Security
Adam Smith, Defense Research Analyst
Adam Smith first became associated with the Governor's Office in November 2010 as a Military Intern, recruited from Virginia Commonwealth University to provide administrative support and staffing for the Governor's Commission on Military and National Security Facilities. Prior to this, Adam served in the United States Marine Corps, providing embassy security for the U.S. Embassies in Algeria, Ireland and Nepal as a Marine Security Guard. Adam also spent time stationed in Okinawa, Japan and Camp LeJeune, North Carolina providing logistical support. Adam, a native of Frederick County, Virginia, is a recent graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University's L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs. Adam graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Minor in History.
Virginia Parole Board
Minor Stone - full-time member
Minor Stone spent 29 years in law enforcement as a police officer and supervisor. Mr. Stone retired from State service in 2006. Mr. Stone now owns and operates a successful resort business in Virginia Beach, supports several charitable organizations. Mr. Stone was appointed by Governor Robert McDonnell as a part-time voting member of the Virginia Parole Board in February of 2011. Mr. Stone is now being appointed to a full-time role.
